Facilitates seamless data aggregation with some outdated visual elements hindering user appeal
Real-time data integration is an area for improvement. Although I've worked on several solutions involving real-time integration, it's not very user-friendly and often lags, especially with over a million data rows. This makes Power BI difficult to manage as loading times can reach one or two minutes, which is problematic today. There are challenges with scalability, requiring multiple pages in dashboards to manage these issues. Visualization could be improved as it appears outdated. Users, especially newcomers, find it unappealing and not user-friendly.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature would be the abundance of connectors. It is also easy to use."
"It's user-friendly and provides data abstracting capabilities. We are also able to share reports with our colleagues very easily."
"It's pretty easy to set up the product."
"Power BI stands out because it provides considerable flexibility in creating reports, dashboards, and various types of analytics to meet those dynamic requirements. It is lightweight and easy to use with good support."
"The solution is easy to set up and implement."
"It's a powerful platform."
"Previously we used Excel, which took a long time - two or three weeks - to bring the data into a uniform format, whereas BI can do the same job in a day."
"Microsoft BI allows us to connect to any database or any dataset."
"It is a central source of up-to-date data and information."
"It is able to create information dashboards for various users' throughout."
"It reduces time to reproduce reports, provides easy access to organisational data, and has the ability to generate a wide range of reports and analysis."

Cons

"Powerpoints are not available in the report server."
"There are some limitations in Power BI; you have to work in the Power BI base. However, if you want something not out-of-the-box and you want something custom, you have to do a lot of work."
"Things can slow down if you create too many pages."
"The orchestration module for refreshing data flows is something that is missing and we have to do it manually."
"The accounting data needs improvement."
"The maps in Power BI could be improved. You deal with many maps over the years, like maps of America and Saudi Arabia. The maps aren't detailed enough, and there aren't enough visualization tools. Whenever I want to use a map, I struggle with choosing the right visualization."
"The only concern I have faced with Microsoft BI is the time it takes to find out an issue and rectify it."
"In my opinion, the software is a little bit limited in terms of the flexibility it offers, with regard to the design of the visualization."
"It needs more presentation/charting capabilities and integration with GIS."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are end-users, and we don't take care of the prices and accounting. We get a product and pay the fee to our internal service provider, but its price should be reasonable. Otherwise, they wouldn't have bought it."
"We view it as an expensive product."
"It is based on the usage. If you're using it, you pay for it, and if you're not using it, you stop paying for it."
"Pricing, that's where Microsoft beats Tableau. It is priced much cheaper."
"You don't need a license for development, but if you want to publish to external users, you need a license. The licensing is very costly, but I think that since the advantages and benefits of Power BI are so high, people are willing to pay. I can't blame them."
"It is reasonably priced."
"I used the tool's free version."
"I would rate them 4 out of 5 for their current pricing. There are no additional costs to the standard licensing fees."
